Wine, Longhorns and Hills

Writer: Mel DickMel Dick

After spending a week in the Texas Hill Country visiting wineries and distilleries, eating great BBQ, watching Texas Longhorns and traveling along rivers and streams cutting through the Hill Country limestone we left for West Central Texas today. Currently in Fort Stockton Texas about 250 miles Southeast of El Paso. Fredericksburg Texas, just West of Austin, with a large German population who immigrated during the mid-1800's, is home to over 50 wineries and countless distilleries. You can walk through the streets of Fredericksburg and have a German brat and beer next to a Tex-Mex restaurant serving tamales and BBQ. The Longhorns pictured below were part of the Signor Vineyards, a wonderful place to sip wine, enjoy the sun and have great food. I'll bet you didn't know that the horns can grow up to 11 feet from tip to tip. Off to Las Cruces New Mexico tomorrow.
