St. Augustine

Writer's picture: Mel DickMel Dick

Short day...only 50 miles. Arrived in St. Augustine early afternoon and immediately went to a bike shop to have my cassette replaced for the final 1,000+ mile push to Key West. The same bike shop replaced my cassette in 2008, the last time I went on a cross country tour of the entire U.S. Not many pictures today. An early morning fishing group, workers on a barrage moving some type of monument and views of the marina and bay in St. Augustine.

St. Augustine has the distinction of being the oldest city in the U.S. founded by Europeans. Founded by the Spanish in 1565, the City has a wealth of history which I plan to explore tomorrow during an off day. Prior to founding the City the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon traveled to Florida in search of the "Fountain of Youth".

More tomorrow.
